SKCE is implementing grassland restoration research trials using herbicides and reseeding to develop methods to contain and reduce the infestation of western Montana grasslands by the new winter annual grass invaders. Research assistants work in area rangelands during sometimes very hot and dry conditions conducting vegetative inventories, installing research blocks, and monitoring and mapping areas for new annual invasive plants. RAs learn native and invasive plants common to area grasslands, learn about herbicide mode of action, usage, toxicity, and efficacy in control of annual invasive grasses.
